Pomegranates

Pomegranates are shipped ripe and ready to eat. They can be held at room temperature for a reasonable period of time. Refrigerate for longer storage. When you split the fruit open, a mass of red seeds in a spongy white membrane is revealed. Only the seeds, with their sweet-tart flavor and juice squirting texture, are edible.

Persimmons

Persimmons have an exceptional flavor and provide us with important nutrients such as beta-carotene, Vitamin C and potassium. Fuyu persimmons can be eaten out of hand just like an apple or pear, there isn’t any need to peel them. They have been described as crisp like an apple and sweet like a pear.

Fuyu Persimmons have a spicy and sweet flavor. Do not store Fuyu persimmons in the refrigerator. They are best enjoyed at room temperature. Eat Fuyu persimmon like an apple. They will remain firm when ripe and contain as much or more potassium then a banana.

Kale

Kale is a relative of cabbage and has a similiar taste. Remove the center rib and cook like spinach. Kale very nutritious! High in vitamins A and C and full of potassium. Kale also contains calcium and iron.

Acorn Squash

Acorn Squash are a winter squash. Winter squash have a pretty long shelf life, especially in the fridge. The best way to enjoy an acorn squash is to cut in half and bake with some butter, cinnamon and sugar. Acorn squash are fat-free and full of potassium and contain vitamin C.

Cranberries are very tart and firm right out of the package. They can be stored in the fridge for weeks. They are great as a sauce with a turkey dinner. They can be dried and eaten like raisins.

Poblano Peppers

Poblano Peppers are rich in flavor and heat. Not quite as hot as a jalapeno, which measures 3,500 to 4,500 on the Scoville Heat Unit scale compared to a pablano which measures at 2,500-3,000. They can be used a milder substiute in recipes.
